Example bank

I started an example bank to write personal experiences for oral and to practice writing in detail for composition.

Today I realized that I am writing things briefly with little or no details and decided to start an example bank to write down detailed oral responses for oral and compositions. I write examples in this structure, reason for action, what I did, what happened and how I felt about it. This helps as I can gather up more personal examples for oral and composition and I can also practice writing in details

Choosing a CCA

I recall being amazed by the dizzying array of CCAs that I could choose from when I was in Primary 3. Because I thought the rope skipping performances in school looked very impressive, I chose Rope Skipping as my first choice. However, my father suggested that I join Robotics instead because I enjoyed coding and had some experience in it. At that time, I was determined to join Rope Skipping and did not pay much attention to his advice.

When I received my CCA posting, I was thrilled to be accepted into Rope Skipping. However, after attending a few sessions, I realised that it was much harder than I had expected and did not match my interests. Although the performances looked exciting, I did not enjoy the training itself. This experience taught me that I should not choose a CCA simply because it looks impressive. Instead, I should consider whether it suits my interests and strengths.

Later, when I transferred schools through the GEP programme, I had another opportunity to choose a CCA. This time, I thought more carefully about my interests and the amount of time I could commit. I initially wanted to put Robotics as my first choice, but my father advised against it because I was already attending Mathematics and Science Olympiad classes and had to balance schoolwork with my tuition commitments. He said that Robotics would take up too much of my time and that I should choose either Scouts or Brownies. After discussing the options with my father, I made a decision matrix for the Robotics, Scouts and Brownies CCA with respect to enjoyment, time taken, knowledge to learn and values. I chose Scouts because I enjoyed outdoor activities and camping. I thoroughly enjoyed the CCA and gained many valuable experiences.

Through this experience, I learnt that choosing a CCA requires careful thought. It is important to consider both your interests and your commitments so that you can enjoy and benefit from the CCA you choose. Looking back, I am glad that I chose Scouts because it suited me much better and allowed me to develop many useful skills.
